IAN LUNT, Radcliffe Borough's all-time top goalscorer, has been released and has joined local rivals Salford City, writes STEVE BOTT.

The news will come as a shock to many Boro fans, for while 37-year-old Lunt, who hit 138 goals in seven years at Boro, has been struggling for goals recently, he has put in some sterling performances in a spell when Radcliffe have struggled for strikers.

But Boro boss Kevin Glendon has been busy looking for new talent and has brought in Neil Ross on loan from Stockport and has two more strikers on the way, Lee Kissock from Everton and Lee Pegram from Tranmere.

Glendon also had Lee Evans as cover for Neill Hardy, who is now on his way back from a troublesome knee injury. Evans has since returned to Stockport County after a successful month at Stainton Park, during which time he scored five goals for the club.

"I also need to give Dave Collins a run," said Glendon. "He has scored five goals from eight starts, so I couldn't guarantee Lunty a game."

Lunt scored 138 goals in his seven years with Radcliffe and Glendon added: "No-one can take away what Lunty has done for us at Radcliffe. As well as making himself the club's top scorer, he was part of a championship-winning team and has had a fabulous time here.

"But things come to an end and this move gives him the opportunity to get a regular game."

Boro have also signed left-sided midfield player Andy Walker, who was previously with Conference side Leigh RMI.

Walker will be available for tomorrow's trek to Gretna just over the Scottish border and Glendon says: "We need to get some points on the board. I don't think there will be any problems, but we need to start pulling away from the bottom."
