BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness was today linked with a move for Celtic's Paul Lambert.

A story in the Daily Record suggested the tough-tackling midfielder is a target for the Blackburn boss.

The Scottish international is believed to be unsettled at Celtic Park following the recent arrival of Neil Lennon from Leicester.

And Souness has made no secret of his desire to bring in a defensive midfielder, with both Tim Sherwood and David Batty linked with a possible Ewood return in the last week.

But Lambert's name is not one that has been discussed at boardroom level and no move appears imminent.

"That's one that's never been mentioned to me," said chief executive, John Williams.

Meanwhile, Rovers' First Division rivals Fulham could strengthen their promotion push with a move for Bradford City striker Benito Carbone.

And Bolton's hopes of landing former Ewood favourite Colin Hendry on a permanent basis could also be scuppered because of Coventry's financial demands.

The Sky Blues are demanding a fee of £250,000 for the Scottish international which may price him out of a move to The Reebok.
