BARNSLEY RS 0 BURNLEY RS 2

ANTHONY Shandran was on target again as Burnley's reserves picked up a welcome three points at Oakwell last night to move into the top three of the Avon Insurance League Premier Division.

The reserves' leading scorer broke the deadlock 12 minutes into the second half and a late own-goal sealed the points as a strong Clarets side limited Barnsley to few opportunities.

Shandran was on target as early as the second minute but his shot was saved by Richard Siddall before Paul Crichton was called into action at the other end to save at the feet of Carl Barrowclough.

However, it was the Clarets who went closest to taking a half-time lead when John Boardman clipped the top of the bar from 25 yards. The visitors continued to press after the break and Shandran raced clear to round Siddall and put Burnley 1-0 in front.

Burnley's rearguard, which included Dean West, Gordon Armstrong, Ian Cox and Chris Brass, gave little away and a mistake by Siddall allowed a back-pass to roll into the net for Burnley's second.
