IS 'In Off The Post' a true representation of football fans in this area -- letters about who sings louder than who; which boys are the biggest and who has been a fan the longest make me feel like I am back in the playground.

Maybe Burnley supporters have to produce stubs from the 1980s to buy a ticket for this season at Turf Moor in order to be considered a genuine fan, but I doubt it. And I'm sure Mrs Sharon Osborne (Sports Letters, January 23) would agree that all our local teams have created incentives to encourage new support.

Your columnist Stephen Cummings again cannot refrain from making distasteful comments. To mention the Harold Shipman case in the context of an FA cup-tie between Burnley and Scunthorpe, whether in sarcasm or not, is beyond reproach. Has he no sensitivity towards those hundreds of people whose relatives were murdered and is he not aware that Dr Shipman practised in Todmorden?
