EXPECTANT mum Jeni McGlynn found herself giving birth in her mother-in-law's front room.

Hours after doctors had assured her she was not in labour, the room of the house in Wordsworth Avenue, Radcliffe, became a makeshift delivery suite.

Husband Carl (22) and mother-in-law Susan Lipok acted as midwives, receiving instructions over the phone from an ambulance crew.

Little Harry arrived at 2.20am weighing a healthy 6lbs 14oz.

Mrs McGlynn (20) of Shire Gardens, Radcliffe, and Harry are both doing well since the unexpected birth.

The drama started when Mrs McGlynn began to experience sharp stomach pains. Convinced her contractions had started, she was rushed to Fairfield General Hospital by her husband.

"The pain was really bad and the hospital monitored me for a while, but said I wasn't in labour."

Mrs McGlynn was given the option of remaining in hospital or leaving. Since her husband was not allowed to stay she chose to return to the home of her mother-in-law Susan who was looking after their two-year-old son, Oliver.

"I was still in pain and it was getting stronger and stronger and then I realised I was going to give birth," she said.

"I've only just about managed to get over it all," laughed Mrs McGlynn.
