MIKE KELLY has his eyes on a win double after Ramsbottom United's latest success.

Ramsbottom United's caretaker-manager takes his side to St Helens Town tomorrow, then will be preparing them for a home game against Fleetwood Freeport on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Rams have never beaten either side since being elevated to the North West Counties top flight four years ago.

But if Ramsbottom continue where they left off against Glossop that will soon be put to rights.

In a bid to ease the fixture backlog, Tuesday night games will now be played on Thursday's if they don't go ahead on schedule.

Prestwich Heys' striker Brandon Jolly was hoping to be in with a chance of a place on the bench against Fleetwood if he can shake off an injury he picked up playing for Prestwich Heys last Saturday.

Another new face, defender Stuart Anderson, formerly with Ashton United could also be in the squad.

"With all the games we have coming up -- there's around 20 or so to squeeze in in eight weeks -- we are looking to strengthen the squad in general," said Kelly.

Before last Tuesday night's game both teams stood for a minute's silence in memory of Ramsbottom manager Ken Bridge.

The visitors looked livelier in the opening period, but with just five minutes gone Chris Willcock was brought down in the box and Russell Brierley scored from the spot.

North End looked for a quick reply and a snap shot from Dean Sillett was well-taken by Keith Nield.

Midway through the half the Rams lost Darren Bowman with a hamstring injury and his replacement, Barry White, had the Glossop defence at full stretch in conceding a corner kick after a delightful pass from Neil Wallace set him free on the right.

Willcock then brought a good stop from keeper Chris Lawton and Brierley was inches away from a second as he connected with Willcock's low cross.

Five minutes before the break and following a goalmouth scarmble that Glossop failed to clear, White picked his spot to make it 2-0. Ramsbottom finished the half well in control, although the Derbyshire side had made them work for their two-goal lead.

The second half opened with Brierley winning a corner as he outpaced the Glossop defence.

Ramsbottom got the all-important third goal on 49 minutes when Willcock crossed from the left, White laid the ball into the path of Brierley, who made no mistake from 12 yards.

Ramsbottom now had the stranglehold on the game, with skipper Andy Grimshaw outstanding in midfield.

Further goals looked likely as Ramsbottom threatened to run away with the game, but keeper Lawton produced a string of fine saves.

To their credit, Glossop battled on and prevented any further scoring and in the final minutes they actually produced their best attacking spell of the second half, forcing the United defence, with Mike Smith especially having a fine game, to defend doggedly to protect their clean sheet.
