THE mini-revival that has taken Radcliffe Borough clear of the UniBond League Division One relegation zone will be put to the test tomorrow (Sat March 10) when high-flying Vauxhall come calling at Stainton Park (kick-off 3pm).

Boro will be champing at the bit after yet again falling victim to the weather when Tuesday night's game at Guiseley was called off because of a frozen pitch.

"It's a joke," said Boro boss Kevin Glendon, who is becoming increasingly frustrated at the number of postponements his team have had to endure this season.

"Emley's game was on in Wakefield, but ours was off. What can you do?

"I really fancied us at Guiseley. A win would have taken us to 11th and then you are looking at getting into the top ten.

"As it is, after the transfer deadline on March 31 we will have 12 games to get in between then and May 5. The league are not extending the season, so don't be surprised if you see the names B Manning and K Glendon on the team sheet." Boro had four players missing at Winsford, striker Phil Power, right back Richard Battersby and midfield men Eamon Kelly and skipper Mark Dempsey.

Power will be out again after injuring his leg and back at work. Fireman Power was hurt when a lorry crashed into the back of a fire service van on the M56.

"He's got a real problem with his back. Not just now, but in the future," said Glendon.

Kelly will also be missing as he serves the second of a two-match ban that has been prolonged by the Guiseley postponement.

Glendon is hoping Dempsey and Battersby will be back though. Dempsey has had a virus and Battersby went over on his ankle in training. He would have missed the Guiseley game, but will be back in the reckoning on Saturday.

Boro fans may have to wait for their first view of new boy Liam Croxton at Stainton Park.

Despite a bright showing on his debut at Winsford, where he scored Boro's first goal from midfield and went close on a number of other occasions, he may have to be content with a place on the bench against Vauxhall. "Liam only started the game on Saturday because we had a few injuries," said Glendon. "He was going to go on the bench, but with being a bit short he started the game.

"We will have another look at him, but it might not be on Saturday as Demps will be back."

Croxton, just 20, was released by Southport because they couldn't give him enough games. He can play either in defence or midfield and at Winsford showed he might also have a future as a striker.

Boro's other new signing, the experienced Gus Wilson, slotted into his normal role at the back and the former Hyde United player earned high praise from Glendon.

"I am delighted I got Gus," said Glendon. "He reads the game so well and talks well, which will help the young lads."

Glendon is also set to give leading scorer Neil Hardy his first start since returning from a troublesome knee injury.

Hardy has made a couple of appearances as a late substitute and either scored or looked dangerous.

"We were looking to give Neil a start at Guiseley, so he will probably start the game on Saturday," said Glendon.

"We are really looking forward to the game," said Glendon. "I think it will be a really good game.

"I prefer to play teams like Vauxhall who are on a run because I always class us as promotion contenders, no matter where we are in the table.

"I know they haven't got Greg Blundell anymore, but they are on a roll and are used to winning after coming up and carrying it on.

"They'll be thinking they are playing a team at the bottom. They'll have done their homework, but they could be in for a bit of a surprise.

"And if we can get them beaten we could go on a bit of a run ourselves," added Glendon.
