DO you play hockey? Would you like the chance to represent your town? How about representing Lancashire? Or North West England?

Bury Jaguars Junior Hockey Club are going from strength to strength with another player being selected to represent Lancashire, namely, Louise Bull who has recently been drafted into the under 14 squad.

Louise follows a long line of players from the club who have represented the county. It all began four years ago when Jack Dixon, Richard Matthews and Martyn Kitchen were selected as under 14 players. Three years ago, Chris Goldsbrough (u-15) and Peter Friend (u-13) joined the ranks, followed the year after by Adam Friend and Tom Hopwood (u-16), Anthony Davies (u-14) and the first girl from the club, Katie Clough (u-14).

This year, this impressive line-up has been added to by Gemma Bannister, Hayley Wynne, Jessica Halal and Rebecca Pimblott at under 18 and finally, Louise.

Three of the players have also gone on from Lancashire to represent North West England and all three -- Chris, Peter and Anthony -- hope to be selected again this year for the Regional Championships in Bristol in early May.

The Jaguars run six teams, boys and girls at under 11, under 13 and under 15, and also the odd mixed squad in both local and national competitions. This year, the under 11 mixed team and the under 13 boys team have won through to the area finals of the National Mini Hickey competition, to be staged in Preston. The high spot of the season is the Greater Manchester Youth Games in Wigan (June 16-17) where the club have won three bronze and a silver medal in previous years.

The club wants to encourage more youngsters to take up the sport and reach these heights in the years ahead. Training is on Friday evenings at Goshen and caters for players of all abilities from established team or school players to absolute beginners, and all equipment can be provided.
