A SPORTSWOMEN'S dinner at Burnley FC has raised more than £1,000 for the local women's refuge.
The well supported event in the James Hargreaves Stand was organised by the Friends of the Women's Refuge and was held in conjunction with an International Women's Day event at the Town Hall.
Guest speaker was author Gale Newsham whose book: "In A League of Their Own" about a women's team formed at Preston North End during the First World War is being made into a film directed by Rita Tushingham.
Additional entertainment was provided by comedian and singer Mia Carla.
