POLICE chiefs have moved to allay fears of trouble in the countdown to the big match clash at Ewood Park between Blackburn Rovers and Burnley FC on April 1.

In response to public concern about violence at the match and in Blackburn before and after the game, police are reassuring residents that policing arrangements have been comprehensively reviewed.

The policing operation will be aimed at the minority of so-called fans who are planning to cause disruption.

Trouble flared after December's match between the two sides held at Turf Moor when some Burnley fans went on the rampage in the town centre, smashing shop windows.

Ten people later appeared in Burnley Magistrates' Court charged with a variety of public order offences. Chief Inspector Andy Pratt, the officer in charge of community safety in Eastern Division, said police would be targeting known troublemakers in a bid to clampdown on anti-social behaviour. Officers would be patrolling in the town centre to make people in the town and at the match feel secure.
