REGARDING your article headed 'Capita could be twice the price' and 'Hefty cost to council tax payers as negotiations go on' (LET, March 23), while I commend your full coverage of this partnership arrangement with Capita, I feel I must correct any misunderstanding that readers may have following these headlines.
The costs you quote refer to the value of the contract, which is now larger than first envisaged because it covers a wider range of services and is for a longer period.
As well as the many other benefits the partnership will bring, it will produce savings of about £600,000 a year in support costs, which will be invested into front-line services for the benefit of all our residents.
COUN GAIL BARTON, Executive Member for Resources, Blackburn with Darwen Council.
