YOUTH groups in Pendle such as Scouts, Guides and the Boys' Brigade can look forward to having a great time when Pendle Leisure Trust re-launches itself on April 21.

The Trust has devised a 'leisure-links' scheme which will provide discounts at the borough's leisure attractions for the area's constituted uniformed youth groups, including Pendle Wavelengths.

Pendle Borough Council's leisure department became an independent entity in October last year and during the last six months it has been restructuring its objectives, with one of the main priorities being to work out how it can help the local community.

Katy Mills, marketing officer, said: "We realise that a lot of much needed funding is difficult to come by and that groups, such as Scouts, Guides, ATC, Boys' Brigade and St John Ambulance, rely heavily on volunteers and their own fundraising efforts.Yet there is still the need to use facilities and organise events and trips."

Other leisure attractions included in the scheme are Pendle Leisure Centre, West Craven Sports Centre, Colne Municipal Hall, the Silverman Hall in Nelson, Barrowford Civic Hall, Nelson Civic Theatre and Seedhill Athletics and Fitness Centre.

As part of the leisure-link launch, the youth groups will be invited to make the most of a free swim at Pendle Wavelengths on Tuesday, April 24.

Any uniformed groups who have not been in touch with Pendle Leisure Trust can contact Katy Mills on 01282 661233 to find out if they qualify for the leisure discounts.
