I NOTE over the last few weeks in the Citizen letters column the old Morecambe cry of "We should be separate from Lancaster" has raised its head again. How people cannot see that Morecambe would be dead without Lancaster I cannot understand.
Let's face it the days if mass tourism for Morecambe are over. The most prosperous club in the town relies heavily on the weekly influx of students from Lancaster University. Morecambe's chief source of employment now is residential care homes. Lancaster on the other hand is thriving. The establishment of the university has stimulated trade and culture.
Morecambe residents should be grateful that the two towns were amalgamated in the 1970s. The present sea defences could not have been paid for but for the contribution of Lancaster rate payers. Forget it Morecambe and count your lucky stars its Lancaster and Morecambe and let's get on with getting this bypass built which will benefit both.
