LANCASTER City Council's mayor will plant a tree as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in the Holocaust.
The planting ceremony will take place in the Garden of Remembrance next to Lancaster Town Hall on Thursday 19 April at 10.30am and Rabbi Zalud, the Jewish Minister for the North West, will officiate at the ceremony.
Back in January a national ceremony was held in London to mark the first UK Holocaust Memorial Day. Lancaster City Council marked the day by putting on commemorative displays in both of its town halls. The idea of a commemorative tree was reportedly suggested by a member of the public, Mr Stanley Henig, and was subsequently supported by council.
