BLACKPOOL was mourning the death of a former mayor this week.

Collin Hanson, Conservative councillor for Waterloo ward, died on Sunday morning (April 1) at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

He was an active member of the Blackpool political scene and opened the Hounds Hill shopping centre during his time as mayor. He also helped to set up the town's twinning with Bottrop in Germany.

He spent time as chairman of the council's tourism and leisure committee and as deputy leader and was also a county councillor during the 1970s.

Mr Hanson was a keen Rotarian, and was the only member to hold the office of president twice at Marton Rotary Club.

Mr Hanson leaves a widow Stephanie, and son John.
