TYLDESLEY RU made another successful trip to South Manchester but were made to work hard by an awkward Bedians side who never gave up despite the obvious difference in class, particularly in the back division.

For the first quarter the home side worked hard pegging Tyldesley in their own 22, however the usual solid Tyldesley defence held firm and after soaking up the pressure the boys in blue decide to apply some of their own.

A drive from Craig Pulman was stopped 20 metres from the line and the ball was moved swiftly to the right where winger Eddie Wallbank dived over for the try.

Shortly afterwards lock forward Craig Shotton left field with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Lee Berrisford who went to open side flanker with Pulman dropping in to second row. With virtually his first touch Berrisford barged over to the left of the posts but Wallbank's attempted conversion came back off the uprights.

Tyldesley continued to press and Berrisford added his second try near the end of the half which Wallbank converted to send Tyldesley in 17-0 up at the break.

Bedians tried again to break the Tyldesley defence but it held firm again and a quick movement of the ball in the backs allowed a fine running and passing combination between the backs and forwards with Berrisford completing his hat-trick in fine style. Another conversion put Tyldesley

24-0 ahead and a fantastic break by full back Mark Swanton went unrewarded when the last tackle did enough to stop him just seven metres short of the line.

Bedians kicked well up field and from a lineout on the Tyldesley five metre line they caught and drove for the line with success for a unconverted try.

However, Tyldesley had the final say when stand off David Sivill dummied to his left before arcing his run to the right to score in the right hand corner. Not exactly a polished performance from Tyldesley but enough done to keep them in sight of leaders De La Salle with three games to go.

Tomorrow, Didsbury visit Well Street. Kick off is at 3pm.

With several players unavailable, a combined Second and Third team met local rivals Atherton and in a close match the visitors won 17-10.
