JOHN Walsh, prospective Tory parliamentary candidate for Bury North, has pledged to fight for the right to keep pounds and ounces.
Plans by the Government to ban signs showing imperial measures alongside metric figures has met with a weight of criticism.
Mr Walsh said: "Shoppers on Bury Market have made it quite clear to me that they still want to buy in pounds and ounces. I know of no-one who wants to change."
