MOANING residents in Prestwich are being encouraged to stop talking and start taking action to improve the area in which they live.

A special volunteers evening will be held on Wednesday (April 11) to recruit help for a variety of community events.

Organised by Prestwich Business Forum and Prestwich Carnival Sunshine Team, the meeting will take place at the Longfield Suite from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Secretary of the business forum John Ardern said: "People have got to stop moaning and complaining about the negatives in Prestwich and start doing something positive to help the local community. There's so much to do and we need help for the May Day Festival, Prestwich Carnival and other events."

He added that people of any age would be welcome and volunteers were needed for jobs large and small, including delivering leaflets to neighbours about forthcoming events, marshalling sporting events or if anyone had a special skill it would be put to good use.

"We are looking for anything," added John. "People should come along and find out what they can do."

The volunteers evening will be followed by a carnival meeting by the Sunshine Team to discuss plans for the event on June 16 and 17.
