PLANS to take a group of under privileged children on a trip to the Lake District for four days have been wrecked by the foot and mouth crisis.

Although Prince's Trust organisers admit they are disappointed that their outdoor adventure scheme has been hit they are planning fun packed action nearer to home instead.

The volunteers, based in the youth centre, West Paddock, Leyland, have organised an action-packed day of fun events to raise around £1,500 for the venture. Events co-ordinator for the trust Martin Shaw, 23, from Fleetwood, said: "We were hoping to improve the children's confidence and get their blood pumping by taking them walking, canoeing and rock climbing in the Lake District, but it's practically shut off now.

Prince's Trust volunteer Peter Bradshaw, 24, of Bucklands Avenue, Ashton, added: "We have now decided to take them to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for the day.

"Then we'll go to Warner Cinema, Mega Bowl and Leisure Quest among other places."

To raise money for the day trip out the volunteers have put together a one day festival at The Original Ship Inn, in Towngate, Leyland, on Sunday, April 8.

Seven up-and coming chart toppers will be performing including Bodies, finalists in areas 'Battle-of-the-Bands', Leyland girl band Kindred, Hyperjax, The Road Runners, Cannula, Albert's Ginger Wig and John Kenny from Rubican.

There will also be a slave auction, a fancy dress contest and pub quiz as well as face painting and a raffle with a host of prizes donated including a £100 worth of photographic sessions, a meal for two the Park Hall, Chorley, two free sun bed sessions and a CD player. However, the volunteers are still looking for further prize donations. For information or to donate a prize call Peter Bradshaw on 07929863189.
