MEDICAL group Smith & Nephew, which employs more than 400 people making gauze at its Brierfield site, is ahead of its financial targets, according to chairman Dudley Eustace.
He told shareholders at the company's AGM that prospects for growth remained excellent, with all four business operations performing well.
"Our markets remain strong, driven by the growing needs of ageing populations worldwide," he said.
"Just over two years ago, we announced a plan to transform Smith & Nephew from what had become something of a healthcare conglomerate into a group focused on the long-term growth markets of medical devices. I am pleased to report that the transformation has been achieved ahead of schedule."
