CHRIS Cull lists his top three interests as music, music and music.

The father-of-three, who is Wigan Council's new co-ordinator for instrumental teaching, is obsessed with making music -- and passing on the fun and excitement to young people.

Chris, whose first love is the trumpet, has worked as a freelance player in this country and abroad -- and aboard cruise ships in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.

A graduate from the Trinity College of Music in London, he studied the trumpet, piano and conducting. He also conducted his own band for a couple of years, which has stood him in good stead for his work in Leigh and Wigan schools.

Chris worked with Bolton Music Service from 1992, rising to become manager of the Bolton Music Service Agency team between 1998 and 2000. During that time he conducted the Bolton Youth Orchestra, their Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Youth Brass Band.

He said: "I am glad to be working here in Wigan and Leigh where I know music is valued. I want every child to have the opportunity of learning to play some form of instrument whether it's a double bass or a penny whistle. I am determined to go on improving the quality of instrumental teaching that goes on in schools."

Chris' first major appearance on the podium took place on Tuesday when he conducted the Wigan Youth Orchestra, the Wigan Junior Youth Choir, the Youth Flute Choir and the Youth Guitar Ensemble in a grand "Spring Celebration" at Aspull Civic Hall.
