THE mother whose home was targeted by firebombers today said she was baffled by the crime -- as police renewed their appeal for information.

Mrs Julie Lee today spoke publicly for the first time about the attack and said her family were innocent victims with no enemies they could think of.

The family of four -- Julie and David Lee and children Robert, 11, Jenny, eight, and Alistair, six, were forced to flee their home The Pastures, Beardwood, Blackburn, in the early hours of Monday, March 19.

Detectives say they are at a loss to establish a motive and have renewed their appeal for information.

Mrs Lee said: "We are all just innocent victims in this, so you can imagine how we feel. We are all completely baffled why somebody would do this to us. The one thing we are certain of is that we haven't got an enemy in the world.

"Somebody out there must know what is going on though."

"It was just lucky that the smoke alarms in the house were working, otherwise, who knows what might have happened. It's terrifying to think of it."

Det Insp Mark Gray, of Blackburn CID, said they believed the wrong house may have been targeted in the attack and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

He added: "All our inquiries have so far failed to identify a motive which would substantiate the Lee family being the intended victims of this arson attack.

"This leads to the strong possibility that their premises was mistakenly targeted."

"We are asking that anybody living in that area who is aware of circumstances relating to themselves which might lead to such an attack contact us."

Det Insp Gray reassured residents in the area that there had been no repeat of the arson attack on any other property.

The Lee family were trapped in their house because the fire, believed to have been caused by something pushed through the letter box, was by the front door.

Police officers broke in and rescued the family.
