ACCRINGTON'S traditional Christian Easter programme begins tomorrow with a procession of witness.
The Palm Sunday procession led by the Boys' Brigade Band will leave Broadway at 2.30pm with an interdenominational group carrying a wooden cross.
The procession of witness will travel up Avenue Parade and to the top of the Coppice where they will assemble at the foot of a large steel cross at the summit.
On Good Friday the group will assemble at the foot of the Coppice at 11.15am. School pupils will say prayers and give Gospel readings at ten positions on the way to the summit.
A group of people will meet at the foot of the cross on the Coppice on Easter Sunday at 7.30am and offer prayers to celebrate the resurrection.
These events have taken place in Accrington every Easter for more than 40 years and demonstrate the unity and witness of the Christian groups in the town, ensuring the symbol of the cross will overlook the town throughout Holy Week.
