The town has never got over being absorbed into Burnley in 1974 during the local government re-organisation. Until then it was its own local authority -- an urban district council.
But when Burnley, Preston, Blackpool and Blackburn lost their county borough status and became part of Lancashire, Padiham, became part of Burnley.
