TOURISM Minister Janet Anderson MP was due to see for herself that East Lancashire's tourism and leisure industry is very much open for business when she visited Helmshore Textile Museum today.

The Rossendale and Darwen MP was due join the chairman of Lancashire Tourism Partnership, Anthony Goldstone, to visit one of the public footpaths that is still open for walkers and cyclists, on the former railway line next to the museum.

She said: "I am delighted to send the message home that my constituency, here in Rossendale, is well and truly open for business. This is a fascinating part of Lancashire there are plenty of things to see and do.

"Where there is a very low risk of spreading foot and mouth disease some recreational sites are being reopened for walkers and cyclists to enjoy. I look forward to many more opening up soon."

Mr Goldstone added: "Tourism is open right across the UK and we must end this pessimistic air both in the UK and overseas.

"Whilst some footpaths and country parks must remain closed, visitors can still meander through country lanes, visit picturesque villages, country pubs, restaurants and shops."
