COUNCILLOR John Milburn (Letters, May 20) states he is dispirited by the negative attitude of people in Blackburn who knock their town.
Expanding on the achievements of Blackburn with Darwen Council over the last five years, he ends by saying that while not pretending things are perfect, we will shortly have a town and borough of which every citizen can be proud.
May I point out that his colleague, Councillor Ashley Whalley, stated (Letters, May 9) that Blackburn with Darwen was a borough with two separate towns, so Coun Milburn, which town are the citizens going to be proud of?
I can only assume he is referring to the regeneration now going on in Blackburn town centre.
A recent report on profitable companies showed that Darwen had slipped 162 places in a national league, so I ask Blackburn councillors how much money they are going to provide to try to rectify Darwen's problems?
Blackburn with Darwen Council's attitude to Darwen's taxpayers is like a sign you see in a joke shop. If we are closed, just push your money under the door.
ROY DAVIES, Olive Lane, Darwen.
