ROVERS boss Graeme Souness today revealed Paris St Germain defender Sylvain Distin is not heading for Ewood Park.

Various reports in the national media had claimed that Souness was poised to make a £7 million offer for the highly-rated central defender.

But, though Souness sent new chief scout Terry Darracott to watch the player in Inter-Toto action at the weekend, he's now decided not to pursue his interest in the 23-year-old.

"It's true Terry went to watch PSG at the weekend and Distin was one of a number of people who had been recommended to us," said Souness. "But we won't be following that one up."

Reports today linked Distin with a move to Bolton Wanderers instead.

And, despite splashing out £10 million on new signings this summer, Souness is still keen to add two more faces to his squad with a defender and a right-sided midfielder his two main priorities.

But he will only make a concrete move for a player if he believes he's better than what he's already got.

"I'd be happy to go into the season with what I've got now although it's no secret I still want to add to it," said Souness.

"I feel in Tugay and Grabbi we've added to the quality of the squad but we know we're still short in a couple of areas because we haven't got competition for places.

"So that's where we're trying to aim."

Rovers recently had a £3 million bid for Liverpool defender Djimi Traore rejected but Souness isn't ready to up the ante, despite suggestions that an improved offer of £4 million could secure his signature.

"Their valuation is way beyond what we value him at so we won't be going back there," he added.
