BURNLEY manager Stan Ternent may have five strikers at Turf Moor -- but he hasn't ruled out signing more.

The Clarets confirmed that Greek Under 21 international Dimitri Papadopoulos has joined Burnley in a £500,000 three-year deal yesterday.

The 20-year-old has linked up with the Clarets squad in the Isle of Man during their pre-season tour and watched their 1-0 win over the host side last night in Ramsey.

Burnley face Oldham tonight where a win or draw will see them through to Saturday's tournament final.

But the Burnley fans will probably have to wait for the pre-season home game against Everton before they see Papadopoulos play as the club is waiting for international clearance.

"Dimitri is a young lad, he scores goals and he comes within the budget so when I knew he was available I was keen to sign him," said the Burnley boss, who watched the youngster score the first goal for Greece in their 3-1 win over England Under 21s recently.

"He also has terrific pace. There are a lot of things he can improve on but at the moment he is just settling in.

"He doesn't speak a lot of English but with Nik (Michopoulos) and Luigi (Cennamo) here we hope he will be okay."

The addition of Papadopoulos leaves at least five strikers available to Ternent.

Ian Moore, Gareth Taylor, Andy Payton -- who scored last night --and now Papadopoulos are all vying for the front places while former Preston, Blackpool and Rochdale striker Tony Ellis has signed a three month deal at Turf Moor.

But Ternent thinks there is a place for all of them - and could add more.

"I have five strikers at the moment and I will pick, depending on whether I need two or three, who I think will be the best at that time," said the Burnley boss. "I may need more. It is all about strength in depth and competition for places to see us through suspensions, injuries and dips in form.

"I have been gradually building the squad up." We are getting there but we are by no means the finished article. I am still looking at maybe two or three more players.

"The Chairman is ambitious, the board is and so am I. We have some good players at the club but I think we may need a couple more."

These may not come in before the start of this season although the boss has been impressed by the three triallists who have been at Turf Moor over the last couple of weeks.

Left winger Alan Moore, who was released by Middlesbrough, played his first full game for the Clarets in last night's victory and made some good runs which got the travelling fans going.

Paul Hughes, released by Southampton, and Belgium midfielder Dimitri De Conde came on for the second half.

"Alan did well but so did Paul and Dimitri. It was difficult on the pitch. It wasn't easy to play on but it is all about fitness, that's the important thing.

"They will all be here for the rest of the pre season."

The trio will probably get a run out again tonight while Ternent looks likely to once more swap and change his squad.

One player who will be missing though is Mitchell Thomas who is suffering with a hip strain although he is hoping to be on the comeback trail next week.
