WHO said what after Rover's game.

CRAIG SHORT

"We're very disappointed with the result because we felt it was a game we should have got something out of.

"Without being disrespectful to Derby, we felt that we could come here and win so we were full of confidence believing we could get a result.

"We had a gameplan which was to sit deep in the first half, try and soak the pressure up and then hit them on the break because we've got so much pace up front.

"And we started off well because Keith Gillespie nearly scored straight from the kick off.

"But we then didn't play with a great deal of fluency and it looked as though no-one was going to go in in front at half-time until Ravanelli popped up with his goal.

"It was a daft challenge by me and once they scored we were then left chasing it.

"Ravanelli didn't do much else in the game but then went and scored a great goal like that."

JIM SMITH

"I have to be happy. This was our first home win on the opening day of the season since 1993 so I guess that says something about Fabrizio Ravanelli.

"He scored a great goal and gave the crowd a hero but I thought he was a big team player as well because his running and tackling back was exceptional.

"I always felt that he would score goals but for Malcolm to get off the mark, too, was a big boost for him.

MALCOLM CHRISTIE

"We were a bit disappointed in the dressing room afterwards because we were hanging on and if we keep doing that then teams will start beating us.

"So there was some relief that we did eventually get the three points.

"But I thought Fab was excellent and he'll score lots of goals for us this season.

"You could see from his celebrations how much it meant to him and from the crowd's reaction what it meant to them, too.

"To have a man of that calibre to play alongside and work with in training is a dream and the more we work together the better the partnership will become.

CHRIS RIGGOTT

"I thought we played well in the first half and passed it around but it was important to go in with a goal advantage at the break.

"It's been a while since we had an opening day win but it was important that we got off to a good start and let's hope we can continue that now.

"We saw last year what can happen if you start in a bad way and we don't want a repeat of that.

"As for Jansen's 'goal' when the ball went in I looked straight across at the linesman because I thought he might have been offside."
