NOT even the addition of Lancashire's Joe Scuderi could give struggling Nelson a much-needed win against Burnley.

With Wade Wingfield suffering from a back injury, former Seedhill pro Scuderi rushed to help out his old side at Turf Moor.

But he couldn't repeat his current Lancashire form with the bat and was out cheaply for 10 as one of Burnley bowler David Connolly's six victims, the youngster finishing with 6-46.

Nelson were chasing Burnley's total of 138-7 in the reduced 45-over game after Turf Moor pro Dale Benkenstein had starred with the bat, making 57.

Seedhill opener Lincoln Marshall looked like he would have the steady hand to keep Nelson in the game but once he fell for 48 -- to Connolly -- Nelson's lower order offered little resistance.

They finished 29 runs short, the last six men putting on just 14.

Bacup collected 10 points from their trip to Rawtenstall, but were denied a maximum return as the home side produced a sting in the tail.

Riley hit an unbeaten 40 and Clough was 23 not out as they prompted a late recovery to close on 136-8, David Ormerod claiming five wickets for 57 runs.

It was not a day for the professionals as both Rawtenstall's Matthew Mott and Bacup's Shaun Young were both out for ducks, but Peter Killelea proved a match-winner for the visitors as he notched an unbeaten 54.

The game at Acre Bottom between Ramsbottom and Haslingden was abandoned.

Martin Van Jaarsveld continued on Sunday where he left off on Saturday with another fine all-round performance.

He hit a solid 83 as Enfield reached 212 for five from their 46 overs against Todmorden.

He received good support from opener Russell Edmonds who scored 64.

Van Jaarsveld then bowled unchanged with Liam Jackson and both picked up four wickets from their 23 overs as Todmorden were reduced to 135 for eight.

Stuart Priestley offered most resistance with an unbeaten 38.

Chris Bleazard hit 83 not out as Lowerhouse beat Colne after amassing 195 for four.

Gary Hunt was the pick of the Colne attack, taking three for 84 from his 18 overs.

Colne reached 151 for nine in reply with Dave Swarbrick hitting 35 and Gary Laycock 30.

John Russell picked up four for 38 as Colne clung on at the death.

Church continued their recent revival with a nailbiting eight run victory over Accrington at Blackburn Road.

Skipper Alec Holt was the hero with a painstaking half-century as the home side recovered from a sticky start to post a total of 163-7 on a tricky wicket.

Accrington then appeared to be cruising towards their victory target thanks to a second wicket stand of 81 between professional Tama Canning and opener Steve Birtwistle.

But when Craig Fergusson then entered the attack, he turned the game on its head, picking up 4-23 as the visitors were left stranded on 155-9 at the close.
