A FORMER radio presenter is searching for information about his all-time hero and is calling for the help of Lancashire Evening Telegraph readers.

Jim Bibby, interviewed former Rovers front man Tommy Briggs after he scored seven goals against Bristol in February 5, 1955.

Tommy came to Blackburn Rovers in January 1952 from Birmingham City for £15,000.

Jim, who was born and brought up in Blackburn and now lives in Chorley, has started writing a book about Tommy's life as he feels there was a lot more to him than people actually knew.

Jim, 59, said: "Tommy was a fascinating player and person in every respect and I want to find out as much as I can about his life.

"I would like anybody who ever met him to contact me, the slightest of details can help in piecing his life together.

"Anybody who knew Tommy should consider themselves extremely lucky and I ask them to share their memories with me."

Tommy, who lived at Ramsgreave Avenue, Blackburn, created a new club record at Rovers when he scored his seven goals in succession in the 8-3 win.

His goals took the club to the brink of the First Division on four occasions, but when promotion was finally achieved Briggs had already left the club.

Tommy died in 1984 and played from 1952-1958, he first showed his proficiency in front of goal at Grimsby Town where 78 goals in 116 league games had earned him an England B cap in 1950.

In 1949/50, he not only topped the goalscorers at Grimsby, but his 36 goals made him the leading marksman in the Football League.
