A ROUND-UP of the wildlife spotted across East Lancashire.

BIRDS: Peregrine, mute swan, kingfisher, kestrel, swallow (Burnley), grey wagtail, partridge, bullfinch (Barden Lane), garden warbler, willow warbler, heron (Brierfield), little grebe, lapwing, redshank, sparrowhawk (Foulridge).

MAMMALS: Brown hare, mink, bank vole, grey squirrel (Roughlee), pipistrelle bat, woodmouse, weasel (Trawden).

OTHER ANIMALS: Toad, small tortoiseshell butterfly, large white, comma and meadow brown butterfly (Blacko).

PLANTS: Fly agaric, orange spot and candle snuff fungus (Ightenhill, Burnley), bugle, cow parsley, meadowsweet, water mint, greater spearwort, Himalayan balsam, monkey flower (Hurstwood).

Sightings in Blackburn, Darwen and Accrington areas --

BIRDS: Long tailed tit, redstart, grey wagtail, little owl, long eared owl, which is quite rare for this area, stonechat (Roddlesworth), peregrine collared dove, wheatear, meadow pipit, goldfinch (Darwen Moor), dipper, tawny owl, greenfinch, sparrowhawk (Foxhill Bank, Oswaldtwistle).

MAMMALS: Fox (Darwen Moor), pipistrelle bat, hedgehog, stoat, grey squirrel (Witton Park).

OTHER ANIMALS: Green veined white, meadow brown and small tortoiseshell butterfly, cinnabar moth caterpillar feeding on ragwort (along the River Darwen at Ewood).

PLANTS: Cow wheat, crosswort, scarlet pimpernel, cow parsley, sweet cecily (Roddlesworth), Himalayan balsam, Japanese knotweed, water mint, red campion, self heal (Witton Park and along the Darwen towards Pleasington).

Sightings in the Ribble Valley --

BIRDS: Red bunting, peregrine, raven, bullfinch, willow warbler, blackcap, pheasant, redshank, dunlin (Chatburn), short eared owl, wheatear, ring ouzel (Waddington Fell), kingfisher, grey wagtail, green woodpecker (Whalley).

MAMMALS: Roe deer, brown hare (Bolton-by-Bowland), long eared bat, Daubenton's bat, stoat (Chatburn), hedgehog, mole, weasel (Downham).

OTHER ANIMALS: Common lizard, peacock, small tortoishell, green veined white butterflies, six-spot burnet moth, emperor moth caterpillar (Waddington Fell), seven-spot ladybird, common wasp, hoever fly, blue dragonfly (Chatburn).

PLANTS: Marjoram, heath bedstraw, wood vetch, black knapweed, blinks, meadowsweet, watercress, brooklime, hedge woundwort, bitter sweet (Chatburn), greater bindweed, water forget-me-know, water mint, eyebright (Bolton-by-Bowland).
