RUSHDEN boss Brian Talbot was pleased with his team's work ethic and style.

BRIAN TALBOT

ON BURNLEY'S LINE-UP:

"MAYBE we surprised them a bit.

"I felt he (Stan Ternent) had three of his better players on the bench.

"But I really can't say whether he picked his best side or not, I know that I picked my best side.

"I had to because I haven't got a big enough squad to do otherwise."

ON THE BACKING OF OWNER MAX GRIGGS:

"THERE have been some comments in the papers, but maybe now a few people will relaise that my players are hard workers.

"This club is not just about Mr Griggs and this result has perhaps shown that at Rushden and Diamonds there are some good footballers as well."

ON SUCCESS IN THEIR FIRST WORTHINGTON CUP MATCH:

"I HAVE got to say well done to everybody in the team.

"I am very proud of them, but it is only one game and we have got to keep doing it.

"We've got two tough League games over the weekend in which we have to do well.

"We are the new boys on the block and there is no doubt that we have still got a lot of learning to do yet."

ON HIS SIDE'S WORK ETHIC:

"WE pride ourselves on the work that we do and I have worked them very hard through the summer.

"I think our fitness levels showed against Burnley because we matched them all the way.

"Certainly Burnley had more pace than we did in certain areas, you have to remember that most of my boys were still playing in the non-League last season and that Burnley are a side who I feel have got a good chance of getting into the Premiership this season.

"So we knew we had to work very hard but we were still matching Burnley for fitness at the very end."

ON PLAYING STYLE:

"I want a side that passes the ball on the grass.

"We work hard at retaining possession and it doesn't matter who we are playing against, when we have got the ball we will play what we think is the right way to play.

"I like a side who play in triangles and pass and link up, we are not a side who play the percentages, I like to think that we play good football."

ON TURF MOOR:

"I MADE my debut here for Ipswich and we won 1-0. I can't remember whether I have been back since, but this is certainly a lucky ground for me."
