RAWTENSTALL's main Bank Street is open for business today after essential highway work left it closed for 14 weeks.
The work seriously affected some businesses, who reported takings down by half as the work to replace the culvert which carries Balladen Brook progressed.
Bad weather delayed the completion but by only a few days and yesterday the final cobbles were reinstated and the road reopened to traffic.
President of Rawtenstall Chamber of Commerce Debbie Greenwood said: "We are glad to see the back of the works! I am hoping that the traders will be able to organise some kind of event to get the shoppers back."
Lancashire County Council put up signs advising shoppers that the town was still 'open' and printed leaflets to help advertise the businesses which were affected.
