BLACKPOOL striker Brett Ormerod was the hat-trick hero as the Seasiders beat Wigan 3-2 in a first round Worthington Cup tie at Bloomfield Road.
Blackpool had the better of last nights game in a goalless first half, but the match really caught fire after the interval.
Ormerod put the home side ahead after 56 minutes only to see the lead cancelled out by a Wigan goal three minuites later.
Ormerod put Blackpool back in front on 67 minutes but two minutes later Wigan equalised again!
Then, on 85 minutes, the Blackpool hitman was on target for the third time, and the Seasiders held on for a thrilling victory.
"It was great to get the three goals, and obviously I'm hoping to carry that form on and score more," said Ormerod after the game.
"It was hard work at times -- especially in the first half-- but we played some good stuff.
"We had chances in the first half and thankfully the goals came in the second," he said.
"Wigan are a good side so it was good for us to beat them. The win gives us confidence going into Saturday's game against Wycombe, especially as we have a good couple of performances now with Bournemouth and tonight, so we are looking forward to it and hopefully we will get our first home league win of the season" he added.
