BURY make the short trip to Huddersfield Town tomorrow hell bent on bouncing back from two successive home defeats.

A 2-1 reverse at the hands of QPR last Saturday was followed by a 3-1 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday in the Worthington Cup.

But there's no digits poised to press the panic button according to boss Andy Preece who says his side are still brimming with confidence.

"If we'd had played poorly in those games I'd have expected our confidence to have dropped but that wasn't the case," he said.

"There were positives to be taken from both defeats and as long as we don't continue to lose when we are playing well then it is not a problem.

"But, of course, the result is the thing and we just need to start scoring the goals that will bring us the reward our play deserves."

Tomorrow's clash at the McAlpine Stadium takes former Terriers Paul Reid, Chris Billy and Sam Collins back to their old stomping ground.

They certainly won't need firing up for the occasion against a team that haven't been having it all their own way themselves since being relegated from Division One.

A 1-0 home victory over AFC Bournemouth on the opening day of the season was followed by a 1-0 defeat at Reading the following week.

But the biggest shock came on Tuesday night in the Worthington Cup when Rochdale's 42-year-old veteran winger Tony Ford scored the only goal to knock them out of the competition at the McAlpine.

That result must have been a real shaker for the Yorkshiremen and Preece is hoping his side can capitalise on their misfortune.

"It's up to us to put them under pressure early in the game," he explained.

"After winning one league game and losing one it's important we get a good result to take us into Monday's home match against Swindon Town.

Another minus point for Huddersfield is the loss of central defender Chris Lucketti to Preston North End this week.

The former Shakers skipper moved back over the Pennines in a deal believed to be worth £750,000, a figure that will disappoint the Shakers hierarchy as they had a sell-on clause that would have netted them 15 per cent of anything over £1 million.

Indian international Baichung Bhutia, who limped out of the Worthington Cup defeat on Tuesday just after half time has not been completely ruled out of contention for tomorrow.

He trained yesterday and, although complained of a little pain in his injured knee, Preece will wait and see just how he improves over the next 24 hours.

"We aren't 100 per cent sure about Baichung's fitness at present," he said. "We have two games over the weekend and I'd rather he was completely fit for one of them than have him turn out and quit after 20 minutes, we'll see how he goes."

The Shakers reserves were in action on Wednesday night and suffered a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City reserves in the Greggs Manchester Senior Cup Competition at Gigg Lane.

A strong City team, featuring six players with Premiership experience, were watched by new boss Kevin Keegan who saw Paul Dickov (2) and Rhys Day score for the Blues.

The result was all the more disappointing as City had to play the whole second half with ten men after Shaun Wright-Phillips was dismissed for a bad challenge on Danny Swailes just before the interval.

It was a performance that disappointed Preece who said: "It was an opportunity for players to push for a first team place, especially after two defeats and we should have done better.

"Only young David Borley came out of the game with any credit and though they had a strong team out we were lacklustre.

"If someone had taken the game by the scruff of the neck they could have forced themselves into the reckoning this weekend and we need to be putting pressure on players in the first team."
