GIRL power came to the fore at Bedford High School this week, when our news team called to photograph top achievers on the day GCSE results were announced.

But we must admit to being a little bit amazed at some of the results obtained, as well as being surprised to find the six stars who lined-up for a photograph were all female.

Now if one or two of the IT boffins get their heads together, perhaps they could devise a fail-safe computer system for the near future which would ensure ALL exam results arrive in time at our editorial offices. Or will we always fall foul of gremlins? What do YOU think? THE biggest thing that could have happened to Leigh since the cotton and black gold rush of the 19th century has been knocked on the head.

Few felt the scheme was flawless but we, along with the masses, have in the main supported the principle of bringing big investment to the area, and felt Xanadu would be the boost of the century.

We did have sympathy with those who simply didn't want such a thing in their neighbourhood, and respect their concerns.

Now let us all await with interest future developments. Will Wigan and Leigh College remain on site or will we see another twist which will enable them to move further northwards along Atherleigh Way?

Will those members of the council who swapped tactics to support the guided busway change their tune now the snowdome plan has melted? And will the busway be pressed for as hard in as many quarters?

Finally, would the plans have been given the go-ahead had they been on the other side of the Flash and connected to a main rail route?

Your comments would be appreciated ...
