GREAT Harwood boss Denis Underwood comes face to face with his bogey team tomorrow.

The name of Brigg Town must send shivers down Underwood's spine as they seem to get one over on him every time.

The biggest clash was when Underwood was manager of Clitheroe and the Blues reached the FA Vase final in 1994 only to be beaten by Brigg 3-0 at Wembley.

And, as manager of Great Harwood, he met up with them twice last year, drawing 1-1 at the Showground before losing to the Lincolnshire side in the replay in the early rounds of the FA Vase last year.

Now it's the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup and Harwood feels he must overcome the Brigg voodoo.

"You have to think that we have got to beat them at some stage," said Underwood.

"We should have won both games in the FA Vase last year; the first game and the replay.

"I am only glad we haven't drawn them in the early rounds of the FA Vase because you don't want to be coming up against them then.

"I think they will be favourites tomorrow, with it being at home."

Harwood has a host of injury worries to contend with for the tie.

Striker Martin Horsfield (knee), Graham Lightbown (ankle) and Paul Whalley (cracked rib) are all doubtful while centre half Neil Baron may have to get his shooting boots on and play up front.

"Neil Baron's done well. I will have to play him up front because I haven't got anybody else," bemoaned Underwood who had hoped Whalley would be fit for the clash.

"It is frustrating for Paul because he hadn't played for a year before Saturday and came through it alright and said he was ready for Monday's game.

"But then complained of sore ribs on Sunday, and it was even worse on Monday.

"The problem is if you lose too many players just before an FA Cup game you can't go and sign anybody.

"You have to be registered for seven days. For a league game I would just go out the night before and sign someone."

Harwood have picked up one point from their opening two games in the NWCL Division One and Underwood knows any kind of cup run will be a big boost to his side.

He does though need to tighten up what he feels has been a leaky defence so far. "The goals we have been giving away have been frustrating," he added.
