ANTIPODEAN defences had better run for cover because Bury's answer to Crocodile Dundee is on his way!

Shakers striker Lee Buggie today flies across the globe to sign for Australian National League champions South Melbourne.

It's a chance of a lifetime for Lee and one he is relishing after the disappointment of being released by the Shakers at the end of last season.

The 20-year-old striker, previously on the books of Bolton Wanderers, never got a chance to really prove himself in the first team while at Gigg and he's determined to kickstart his career again in the highly-competitive National Soccer League.

That being the case he couldn't be going to a bigger club than South Melbourne.

The current NSL champions competed against Manchester United in the World Club Championship in Brazil eighteen months ago after winning the Oceania Club Tournament.

Bury fan, and a well-known figure on the non-league soccer scene, Dave Brooks was the go-between that's given Lee his chance Down Under.

Ex-pat Dave, who lives close to the club has been a big mate of Lee's dad Ken for years and when he heard of Buggie junior's release immediately thought of contacting the Victoria outfit.

"I can't wait to get over there and show them what I can do," Lee told the Bury Times yesterday.

"Who knows, if things go well I could well be back over here with another club.

"It's a big chance and I want to make sure I give it my best shot."

With his mercurial close control and eye for a goal those Aussie defenders had better be on the lookout meanwhile back over here everyone who knows the likeable local lad will be wishing him the very best of luck!
