HIGHFIELD UTD...5

HESKETH CASUALS...2

HIGHFIELD kicked off against an Hesketh side that arrived with only 10 men and immediately put nine men behind the ball.

After 20 minutes Highfield were given a shock when they went behind, a long ball played up to Wright was controlled and laid back to midfielder Lee White who noticed his namesake Chris White of his line, and cheekily lobbed the ball over him from 30 yards out.

Highfield's Giffiths was carried off after 25 minutes with an ankle injury and was replaced by Platt, who was soon in action shooting wide from eight yards.

Chances were being limited to the home side with nobody having the guile or inventiveness to unlock the Hesketh defence. After 32 minutes a foul by Berry nearly resulted in a second goal for Hesketh's White, his 35 yard free kick hitting the angle of the post and bar with Highfield's keeper White rooted to the spot.

On half time, dressing down by the Highfield management team resulted in two early chances falling to Lomax and Trofumczuk in the first five minutes of the second half both squandered.

Ten minutes into the second half, Highfield found themselves two down, a foul by Stoney 30 yards out resulted in the free kick being deflected into the path of centre forward Wright who was pushed over by Berry. Wright converted the penalty.

Highfield responded immediately with Storey carrying the ball into the Hesketh half and with everyone backing off, he let rip with a 30 yard rocket into the Hesketh net.

Highfield were now getting the ball into the wide areas behind the Hesketh rearguard and five minutes later, Lomax planted a diving header into the corner from a cross by Stott for the equaliser. Two minutes later the home side were in front, Trofumczuk heading in another cross from the left.

Hesketh were now a tired and beaten side and conceded a couple of free kicks round their penalty box.

Introducing fresh legs from the subs bench, Highfield scored again after 75 minutes, Platt hitting a left foot volley into the net after a corner had only been half cleared.

Goal number five arrived after 85 minutes. Lomax rounding the keeper and side footing in.

Man of the Match Lee Stott. This sixteen year is playing out of his skin.
