FIVE more people are set to appear in court following an alleged attack with a golf club which left a teenager with a fractured skull.

The five juveniles will appear before Blackburn youth court on Tuesday charged with wounding and affray.

Steven Heyward, 17, suffered a double fracture of his skull after being hit with a golf club during an incident on playing fields at Darwen Moorland High School.

He is still receiving one to one care in the high-dependency unit at Royal Preston Hospital where his condition has now been described as improving but still poorly.

It is still not known if there will be any permanent damage to his hearing.

A second teenager, Michael Box, was also struck with a golf club and suffered a dislocated shoulder, cuts and bruises to his face and possibly a broken thumb, police said.

Detective Sergeant Ian Critchley said today: "We still have a number of people that we need to talk to in connection with the incident and are keen to for anyone with any information regarding the attack to come forward and speak to us.

"Steven is still receiving treatment for his injuries that he received on the night of the attack."

A 15-year-old youth has already appeared in court charged with two offences of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded on bail to appear before the youth court on Tuesday.

Detective Constable Paul Ryan said: "One man has appeared in court and since then five more people have been arrested who are all juveniles. Inquiries are ongoing."
