THREE women who were arrested and accused of throwing a petrol bomb at a house in Blackburn today relived their ordeal after being released without charge.

The three women, who are mother and daughters, were released from Blackburn Police Station and claimed they were questioned for 15 hours.

Shahnaz Sardar, 21, Taj, 51, and Naria, 29, all of Malham Gardens, Blackburn, were arrested in the early hours of Friday by police in relation to a petrol bomb attack at Javid and Rahana Khan's home in Cherry Street, Blackburn, last Thursday night. .

The device was thrown through a glass panel in the front door of the house and caused damage to the door of the property, although nobody was hurt.

The women said they were arrested because they had been involved in an earlier dispute.

But they said a video camera installed in their house that was used to record nuisance neighbours in their street proved that the women did not leave their house on the night of the petrol bomb attack.

The Sardar family were all very worried about what the consequences could have been if they were actually found guilty of the arson attack.

Shanaz said: "We were really concerned and frightened because we haven't been in trouble before. At the moment we are still in shock because we could have been charged with attempted murder and our lives could have been torn apart if we didn't have the video.

"The police were very helpful when we told them about the video that we had in the house.

"They told us that if we could prove that it was filming the street to prove we had not been out and moved our car at the time the petrol bomb was thrown then we would be released.

"The police did check the tape and the police van drove past on the video which proved that we had not been out all night." The women were extremely shocked after being held in cells for 15 hours and were taken to Queen's Park Hospital when they were released on Saturday to be checked over.

Shanaz added: "My mother was in quite a bad way because she couldn't believe what had happened, she was very shaken and we all needed to be checked over.

"We have also been to the doctors because we are very stressed about the whole incident."

A spokesperson for Blackburn Police said: "We can confirm that we arrested three women in connection with the arson attack and they have now been released without charge.

"The police are still appealing for witnesses to help with ongoing enquiries."
