ON the morning of the Tranmere-Bury game I popped into the Bury FC club shop on Gigg Lane. I noticed a very large, and very prominent display of Manchester United merchandise. I assumed this was merely left over from the friendly game and would be removed by the time of the QPR home game.

No so.

It appears that these goods are to remain there for some considerable time, which I find very crass on the part of the club and their sponsors. What is gong on? Can anyone tell me if this kind of arrangement applies at any other club? Is the Manchester United shop selling our gear, or Manchester City's?

Setting aside the feelings of the Bury fans, what impression does this give to visiting supporters who frequent this otherwise excellent establishment? What is the next kick in the teeth from Bury FC to the loyal 2,500?

Thankfully, at the QPR game several Bury fans protested outside the shop, handing out leaflets and explaining the situation. I fully support this protest and ask all other fans to do likewise.

I shall be taping over the Birthdays name on my shirt, and writing the name of their rivals in its place. And, until the Manchester United goods go I will never set foot in one of their establishments again. As for buying the new shirt. If I buy it at all it will be from an independent retailer.

One word to the wonders of the club shop . . . Ratners! Got it?
