FOUR masked men smashed up a police car which was under repair at a Bury garage.
The "W" registered Volvo was deliberately targeted by the gang, who were seen to climb into a compound at the Walker Farrimond garage on Manchester Road, Sunnybank.
The men attacked the vehicle and left it badly damaged. The Volvo, which belongs to a police division outside Bury, had been in the garage for repairs.
A witness has told police that the foursome, all wearing balaclavas, left the scene in a dark-coloured saloon.
The damaged Volvo was later removed to a police transport unit at Openshaw, Manchester.
Police are now anxious to speak to anyone with information about the incident, which happened at 2.25am on Monday (Sept 3).
Anyone who can help is asked to ring Bury operational police unit on 856 8157.
