BRET COLLINS had local residents running for cover in Sycamore Road on Saturday as he unleashed a phenomenal display of power batting in the game against Edgworth.

Collins hit an unbeaten 90, which included a devastating three-over spell that brought him 70 runs.

That averages out at 3.8 per ball and is the best effort from a Bolton Asociation batsman since another Walshaw player, Anwar Khan, smashed 38 off just seven balls back in 1981 in a game against Walker Institute.

That effort was made up of five sixes and two fours, averaging out at 5.4 per ball.

Another big scoring feat was Iqram Elahi's 100 in 48 minutes for Daisy Hill back in 1979.

Collins' effort helped Walshaw to a seven-wicket win as they took another step towards a third consecutive Bolton Association title.

Chasing Edgworth's total of 165 for seven and with Collins in such awesome form, Walshaw reached their target off just 22 of their 48 allocated overs.

Earlier in Edgworth's innings the bowling honours went to professional Jon Fielding, who took five wickets for 60 runs and was backed up by Barry Hamilton with two for 30.

No prizes for guessing who collected the Walshaw Man of the Match award, it was, of course, Bret Collins. WALSHAW v EDGWORTH
