PRESTON will be without two strikers as they bid to record their first Division One win of the season when Wolves visit Deepdale.

Jon Macken and former Rover Kevin Gallacher are both suffering from hamstring strains and will not be fit.

Wolves boss Dave Jones has been chasing Macken - he is thought to have made a bid of more than £4m - over the last few months and he may make a further bid with rumours that the striker, who turned 24 today, has handed in a transfer request.

The club, however, have not confirmed it and Macken has always said he wants to remain a Deepdale player.

North End took Macken from Manchester United four years ago and he scored 22 goals last season to take them to the First Division Play-off Final at Cardiff.

This season, it has been more disappointing with Preston drawing three and losing one of their four league encounters.

Macken has scored once this season but will miss out tomorrow against Wolves who are currently in seventh spot.

"Wolves look a tough side on paper and tough game would be an obvious statement. But I do expect that," said manager David Moyes, whose side didn't play last week because of international call-ups.

"Wolves are a side who have spent decent money and brought in some decent players.

"The league victory is proving elusive for us, but it will come. We've got to play well enough to get that win and I think we have done that."

"We are still well behind where we should be. We are behind where I want to be, but we have been working hard to try and change it. The players are well rested and they look a lot more like themselves.

"Hopefully, I'll see that on the pitch."

The two injuries to the frontmen leaves David Healy, who got on the scoresheet for Northern Ireland midweek, and Richard Cresswell looking likely to line up together up front.

There will also be late fitness tests on defender Rob Edwards and midfielder Mark Rankine - they too are suffering from hamstring strains - while recent £750,000 signing Chris Lucketti will have a test on his back.

"The break has been a blessing because of the injuries we've had," said the boss.

"Maybe we would have liked to have carried on having gone four games unbeaten, but I think we needed to sort out our injuries.

"We expect Paul McKenna to be OK because he has trained."
