EWOOD chief executive John Williams today quashed talk of a move for West Brom's Neil Clement.

Speculation in the national Press over the weekend claimed Rovers have already made an enquiry for the highly-rated 22-year-old as manager Graeme Souness steps up his efforts to bring in more defensive cover.

But Williams has denied those reports, insisting the Albion stopper is not a name on Souness's shopping list.

And another new signing does not appear imminent, although Williams admits Rovers will continue to look at a number of trialists over the next few weeks.

"It's no secret that we're still looking for a left-sided defender but we haven't singled anyone out in order to make a bid as yet," said Williams.

"Obviously, we'll continue to look at a number of options and there could be one or two players coming in on trial.

"But there's nothing imminent at the moment."

Rovers boss Souness has already cast his eye over a number of options with Argentinian full-back Luciano Zavagno the latest to spend a trial spell at Brockhall.

But the Troyes defender suffered an injury in training last week which affected Rovers' ability to make a judgement.

The player himself has indicated he would jump at the chance of a move to Ewood, saying: "I'm very interested in playing in England -- all the more so because I would double my current salary."

But Souness has now switched his attentions to Sedan left-back David Di Tomasso who is due at Brockhall tomorrow for a trial.
