PADIHAM'S inability to break down opponents' defences and their knack of making individual defensive mistakes themselves continued to be their downfall on Saturrday when they lost 1-0 to Stone Dominoes at the Arbories in the North West Counties League.

For 87 minutes the Storks defenders had restricted the visitors to less than a handful of attempts on goal but when Anthony McCluskey lost possession in his own goal area and pulled back his opposite number then the referee had only one course of action to take, that was to award a penalty which Stones' substitute Steven Taffe converted to win the game for the visitors.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Padiham players who, for the second week running, had matched their opponents throughout but ended up on the losing side.

Padiham also had their manager Graham Haworth sent off when he was red carded for comments made from the dugout midway through the second half.
