TWO goal Andy Mason was the star of the Chorley roadshow as the Magpies made it three wins from three away games, all without conceding a goal in the UniBond First Division.

This latest success was deserved, as Chorley dominated and always looked more threatening up front than their hosts, who were on most pre season shortlists of promotion candidates.

Andy Johnstone defied the perky Magpies with a string of early saves but he was left stranded on 23 minutes when David Sutch headed on Simon Marsh's long clearance for Mason to beat the advancing keeper with a perfectly flighted lob.

As Ashton hit back Marsh saved superbly from a Phil Denney piledriver and just before half time Scott Bradford was well positioned to clear off the Chorley line following a corner.

Ashton had adouble escape after 56 minutes when Mason struck both post and crossbar in quick succession but there was a let off for Chorley too when Darren Royle - the son of former City boss Joe - struck the upright.

The Magpies responded with a brilliant goal on 64 minutes. Sutch ghosted past two defenders before putting Bradford in the clear and his pinpoint cross was hammered into the net by the unmarked Mason.
