BARNSLEY visit Turf Moor tomorrow with the most consistent away record in the country this season - they have lost every match.

Add to that statistic the fact that they have only scored one goal on their travels and the Tykes would appear to be the ideal opponents as the Clarets look to return to winning ways.

But no-one at Burnley will be taking them lightly as the last side to visit Turf Moor, Crewe Alexandra, had an equally poor record before giving Burnley an almighty fright in a 3-3 draw almost a month ago.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi was never under pressure despite those poor stats but the same cannot be said for Tykes manger Nigel Spackman.

The man who spent almost three years in TV studios rather than dug-outs after quitting Sheffield United in 1998 returned to football management in January of this year, taking over from Dave Bassett at Oakwell.

But in 31 league games in charge he has seen his side win just nine matches and, dating back to the last four games of last season, the record is 11 defeats in 16.

The fans, who still have fond memories of their one season in the Premier League, are restless and although chairman John Dennis is supportive any manager whose side is in the bottom three knows the score - improve our you're out.

Spackman is not the first manager to complain about bad luck with injuries but he has been hit harder than most this season.

Finnish international Jan Salli and midfielder Steve Hayward are long term casualties while Rory Fallon, Kevin Dixon, Eric Tinkler, Dean Gorre and Kevin Gallen have all been out of action but at least the last three are in contention to play at Turf Moor having trained this week.

Having signed a number of players in the summer Spackman has recently added Sunderland's Chris Lumsden and Dane Peter Sand to his squad.

Sand has made a permanent move to Oakwell and scored on his league debut last week while Lumsden is on loan with a view to a permanent switch. They played together in midfield in the home defeat by Birmingham City and are likely to start again.

If the Clarets do get back to winning ways the disgruntled Barnsley fans will increase their calls for Spackman to go back on the box.
